Labour Department, Govt. of N.C.T of Delhi has been entrusted with the responsibility of enforcing various labour legislations for the welfare of workers . The Department also ensures peaceful working by providing statutory cover to the workers through preventive and conciliatory efforts, which go a long way for Industrial and Commercial growth. It also provides sustained employment opportunities to lakhs of workers. The Department, being an enforcing agency, is also responsible to prosecute defaulting employers in the Court of Law. In addition to it, and to provide subsidized outdoor holiday home facility to workers and their family members, h oliday homes have been set up at Allahabad and Shimla, under Delhi Labour Welfare Board. The department also runs welfare centers in worker cluster colonies to provide education to their children along with other welfare measures.

Besides the above, the Labour Department has also constituted Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBOCWWB) under Building and other construction workers (RE & CS) Act, 1996 to register building and other construction workers and to provide them benefits of various welfare schemes notified by the Board from its Cess funds These benefits cover Education, health, maternity, insurance, marriage, loans/advance for tools etc. etc.

The Department also intents to setup welfare board for unorganized workers under Unorganized Workers Social Security Act, 2008
